Seth Peribsen (Sekhemib)

Peribsen came to the throne under the name Sekhemib. However, during his reign it is apparent that there was considerable political unrest between Upper and Lower Egypt. This power struggle was characterised by the mythological struggle between Horus and Seth who fought for control of the entire kingdom. Sekhemib dropped his Horus Name (an Upper Egyptian tradition) in favour of a Seth Name (presumably in an attempt to appease Lower Egypt which may have won the upper hand). Therefore, both forms of name are given below. Also possibly known as Sened.
